What will Mr. Hughes do for you “Horizon”

In the next year the PLE site will be filled with lessons used in the classroom. Students will be able visit the site and  review  lesson taught in class. Students abscent will not miss a thing and therefore will not have to make up work. The site menu will be broken down by each grade level making the site easier to navigate.

In each grade level students will find information pertaining to student’s area of study. Students will have access to YouTube videos, internet links, fun and challenging learning games, and instructor’s lesson. Students  work will be found in sites picture gallery. The gallery of pictures will allow students to store photos for future use and employers.

In the next six months the site is will use Moodle to create interactive lessons. Students can submit homework and generate questions online using Moodle,”no more excuses for not handiing work in. Parents no longer have to ask “do you have homework tonight?”Test and quizzes will be created in Moodle. Students will take test in computer labs, with instant access to grades and reducing the amount of paper used.

The average school year contains three semesters, with three cycles per semester.  in each cycle students are required to learn different parts to construction. The first semester is centered on safety; shop safety, hand tool safety, stationary power tools, portable power tools, ladder and scaffolding. In the first semester students will also learn about planning a project from both design and setup. The second and third semester concentrates on specific parts of construction.

The PLE site will take time to create, lessons will be added per semester. The site will be used as a guide for learning and storing information to help students learn and utilize technology. Students and parents will have access to learning 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Students who struggle or students that want more will be able work at his or her pace. There will be no excuses for late homework or incomplete assignments. In the next few weeks spanish speaking parents will have access to site translator, to allow parents to review information clearly.

The link below is for a site I found which discusses using the Internet for education, there are tons of links and website pages providing ideas of how to use the internet for education.

Great job on your PLE. I especially like the organization and ease of use. Your innovative approach to teaching construction is inspirational. I don’t know of any other “shop” class taught with such a progressive curriculum. Students can’t miss a day of class even when they are absent. You’ve given me some great ideas for my PLE next semester.
